I received my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from the University of California Santa Barbara in 1991. I continued graduate studies in Psychology at California State University Northridge, graduating in 1993 with a Master of Science Degree in Counseling Psychology.
I consider myself to have benefitted greatly from the work I experienced before beginning a private practice in 2007. I spent ten plus years working as a parent educator, psychotherapist and Director of Psychological Health for the military, counseling individuals and couples who were stationed at local bases. Among my numerous duties, it was there where I also had the opportunity to develop and teach many life skill classes, such as anger management, stress management and parenting. I had special training in crisis response and suicide prevention. I was also an integral part of a professional team who's purpose was to reach out and educate the enlisted, as well as Command personnel, on just how devastating domestic violence could be to the family.
Additionally, I taught in the Psychology Department for California State University Los Angeles as well as working as an in-patient therapist facilitating groups and performing individual and family counseling for substance abuse patients.
My approach as a clinician is active, direct, and always empathic. I find that a combination of cognitive-behavioral and existential therapy works best in providing my clients excellent service.
Personally, I value living a healthy lifestyle through exercise, good nutrition, keeping close to family and friends, maintaining faith, and pursuing creative, artistic outlets. I am married with three children.
I gladly and gratefully accept insurace. I work with several of the major insurace carriers including Blue Cross, Blue Shield, Aetna, MHN, College Health, Beacon and Tri-Care.
